Marketing Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)
Woking Borough Council is looking for a highly motivated individual with public relations and marketing experience to drive forward the Council’s vision and objectives through effective and efficient communications.
Working with the Marketing Communications Manager and wider team, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of communications covering campaign management, media relations, digital communications, internal communications, events and more.
A key task will be devising, leading and implementing targeted and attention grabbing multi-channel marketing communications campaigns which hit the agreed objectives, budget and schedule, as well as raising the profile of Council-led services.
To deliver high impact communications within a busy environment, you will need excellent writing skills, plenty of creative flair and resourcefulness. A highly organised approach is essential to multi-task and flex to daily challenges and competing deadlines.
On top of your creative skills, you’ll also possess technical know-how and experience when working with graphic designers, printers, rich media and other external specialist suppliers to produce eye-catching and engaging content.
With one eye always on the media horizon, you’ll have the ability to spot and capitalise on positive news stories and, conversely, to identify potential issues and draft media responses. You’ll be accustomed to writing news releases, handling media enquiries from local and national media sources, and liaising with senior staff to deliver swift and accurate responses.
Driving forward the Council’s digital revolution is another main priority. You will use your good working knowledge of digital communications channels – social media, enewsletters and digital advertising – to assist with the development, management and delivery of the Council’s digital communications plan, as well as integrating digital content into your multi-channel campaigns.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join a busy marketing and PR team to ensure that accurate, efficient and cost-effective service information reaches the right people at the right time and make a positive difference to the Borough.
This role is offered as maternity cover fixed term contract starting in early/mid September 2021, of which we anticipate 12 months duration.
What we offer
In return, we offer a competitive salary, a generous flexi time scheme with the ability to take two flexi days a month, membership of the local government pension scheme, discounted health and leisure membership and the chance to get involved in some exciting projects that are changing the face of Woking. Further benefits are detailed in the job pack.
