Woking Borough Council

‘Inspirational’ is often a word associated with Woking. The borough has influenced artists, writers, musicians and business leaders, who have each gone on to create significant moments that have shaped a future rich in culture, sustainable resources and economic success.

That’s because we’ve nurtured a reputation for getting things done, putting residents first and creating the best sustainable environments and opportunities for people and businesses to thrive in. Exciting developments, such as our award-winning museum and gallery, The Lightbox and the soon to be completed Victoria Square, which will bring new housing, jobs and business to the heart of Woking, are powerful symbols of growth. Our public realm has never looked more attractive, but we are always looking forward.

Our current lead for planning is stepping down after a long and successful tenure, so we’re looking for new visionary place-maker to take us into the next phase of Woking’s exciting future. This is a fantastic opportunity in a bold, ‘can do’ authority that is committed to creating sustainable communities in a place with a wide range of development activity. A key member of the Corporate Management Group, you will contribute to the overall direction of the Council and lead the following services, Development Management; Planning Policy; Building Control; Property Services; Asset Management; Business Liaison; and Brookwood Cemetery.

You will be RTPI qualified, with a demonstrable track record in planning and development and an appreciation for the role good design plays in successful place-making. A leader who empowers their teams, you will be future focused, innovative in your thinking and inspirational in advocating for planning.
